Magic Potions and Quackery?

witch making potions from her book

Last week while I was defending animal abuse to a carnivore online, she seemingly creeped on my Facebook page to see who I was. I mean, c'mon, I must be some kind of nut to not eat animals, right?

Their defense, or lack of, resorted her to name calling and said I shouldn't talk since I make magic potions and practiced quackery. My first thought? I felt sorry for her. How much of life they are truly missing out on and also, their clear lack of knowledge on the subjects.

In a world that often labels the unconventional as quackery, I proudly wear the badge of a Reiki practitioner, aromatherapist, and somatic coach. Yes, you read that right – the so-called trifecta of quackery! But before you dismiss these practices as mere pseudoscience, let's embark on a journey into the realms of energy healing, aromatic wonders, and body-mind connections, all flavored with a touch of humor and personality.

Section 1: The Art of Reiki Healing Reiki, often dubbed as the mysterious art of energy healing, has been my go-to practice for balancing the energies that flow within us. Some might call it quackery, but I call it the ancient wisdom of channeling good vibes. Picture this – a room filled with soothing music, dim lights, and me waving my hands around like a mystical maestro. Sure, it may seem like a scene from a magical realism novel, but in the world of Reiki, it's all about the flow, baby!

Honestly, it is BEING there with a loving heart and supporting someone else from a state of meditation. There actually are real honest to goodness studies that have some really cool results with reiki. It's pretty amazing and makes a lot of sense, even from a scientific perspective.

Section 2: Aromatic Adventures in Aromatherapy Enter the world of aromatherapy, where essential oils reign supreme, and skeptics scoff at the idea of sniffing away stress. But let me tell you, there's more to these little bottles of magic than meets the eye – or should I say, the nose? Lavender for relaxation, peppermint for clarity, and eucalyptus for that refreshing burst – these oils are like nature's own stress busters. Call it quackery, but my aromatic adventures have turned many a skeptic into an essential oil enthusiast. What they probably don't know is that all of these plant oils are made up of chemical components that have been PROVEN to have different affects on the body from our emotional state, blood pressure, to immunity.

Section 3: Somatic Coaching: Mind, Body, and a Dash of Quirk Now, let's talk about somatic coaching – the art of bridging the mind-body connection. Critics may argue that it's all in the mind, but hey, where else would you find such a fascinating playground? Picture me as your guide, encouraging you to listen to your body, explore movement, and embrace the quirks that make you uniquely you. It's not quackery; it's a dance of self-discovery, where we cha-cha with our inner selves. So take a second to think about a stressful situation in your life. You feel that kick in your gut, don't ya? Or your pain and inflammation increases during times of stress. There's your proof that emotions are now known to be more of a body thing than a mind thing. Working them out with somatic body focus and movements is where it's at baby!

Defending with Humor: So, why the quackery label? Perhaps it's the unconventional methods or the lack of a white lab coat that raises eyebrows (If only she knew I am actually one of those white coat people). But let's not forget, laughter is the best medicine – even if it's labeled as quackery! Imagine a doctor prescribing a daily dose of humor to ward off skepticism. After all, if laughter can be a remedy, why not embrace the quirky practices that bring joy and healing?

Conclusion: In a world that often takes itself too seriously, I choose to dance to the rhythm of Reiki, savor the scents of aromatherapy, and revel in the playful exploration of somatic coaching. So, the next time someone labels me a quack, I'll simply quack back with a smile. After all, embracing the unconventional is not about proving skeptics wrong; it's about finding joy, healing, and a good laugh along the way. Quack on, my fellow practitioners, quack on!
